Lonnie Lee is the last Australia Rocker standing who still performs and brings in big audiences to the big venues, tours Australia and who still writes and records.
This is a great album for dancers as most of the songs are up
and ready to rock but also for fans of that wonderful fun era to
reminisce.
The balance of the 15 tracks
are ones performed on his show which
are very popular with his audience.
Lonnie himself wrote 5 songs for the album. Some are real rockers whilst the others are a more softer style of the 50's.
Otis Blackwell who wrote Don't be Cruel, All Shook Up, Return to Sender and many more for Elvis also has two songs on the album. He also wrote Defenceless which Lonnie took to the top in 1960. Otis unfortunately passed away prior to these songs being promoted, however, his family gave Lonnie the demo's and this is the result.
These 4 are absolute rockers and Lonnie does a super job on them. It was John who
wrote Starlight Starlight which Lonnie took to the top in 1959
and "Can't you see it in my eyes"
with which he had some success
with in 2008.
The albums contains 4 'new' songs from the late 50's by John Marascalco who at the same time as he wrote them, wrote Rip it up, Ready Teddy and Good Molly Miss Molly. The only difference is that the latter three were picked up by Elvis, and Little Richard and became monster hits whilst the others were not recorded. It was quite common for some songs to not be picked up, not because they lacked the "hit" factor, but perhaps the style was not that which was popular at that time.
This new 2019 release is just what the title says in a cute way.. Back to Basics!
Students of music history should also take a listen and go see one of his shows.. Lonnie's career spans many decades and his longevity could well be a lesson in how and why this self made man, continues to wow his audiences.
