THE ALBUM
40 minutes of joy
This new
album is just what the title says in a cute way.. Back to Basics!
Two superstar writers of the Rock'n'Roll era recently gave Lonnie some
original songs for this album
Four 'new' songs are from the late 50's by John Marascalco who, at
the same time as he wrote them, wrote Rip it up, Ready Teddy and Good
Molly Miss Molly. The only difference is that the latter three were
picked up by Elvis, and Little Richard and became monster hits whilst
the others were not recorded. It was quite common for some songs to not
be picked up, not because they lacked the "hit" factor, but perhaps the
style was maybe over used at that time.
Hey Little
Mama
Going Jukin'
Wouldn't you
know
Back Door
Sally
They are absolute rockers and Lonnie does a super job on them. It was
John who wrote Starlight Starlight which Lonnie took to the top in 1959
and "Can't you see it in my eyes" with which he had success with in
2008.
The other superstar writer was Otis Blackwell who wrote Don't be
Cruel, All Shook Up, Return to Sender and many more for Elvis has two
songs on the album. He also wrote Defenceless which Lonnie took to the
top in 1960. Otis unfortunately passed away prior to these songs being
promoted, however, his family gave Lonnie the demo's and this is the
result.
Ready Steady
Love's Hunger
Pain
Lonnie himself wrote 5 songs for the
album. Some are real rockers whilst the others are a more softer style
of the 50's.
Living in a
Fantasy
A Real Cool
Dude
She's my baby
A Real Gone
Cat
Woman in love
The balance of the 15 tracks are ones performed on his show which are
very popular with his audience.
This is a great album for dancers as most of the songs are up and
ready to rock but also for fans of that wonderful fun era to reminisce.
Lonnie is the last Australian rocker from that early era who still
has his own permanent band, bringing in large audiences to the big
venues and who still writes and records. In fact they call him, 'The
Last Man Standing'.
Students of music history should also take a listen and go see one of
his shows.. Lonnie's 63 year career spans many decades and his longevity
could well be a lesson in how and why this self made man, continues to
wow his audiences.
